Embrace 2025 with Calm: Free eBook Will Show You How!
Hello Lovely Fire Circle Friends!
I’m switching gears in 2025 (or maybe it’s more like adding a whole new set of gears!!) but I won’t be letting the cat out of the bag, just yet!
But here’s what I will tell you, that this year I’ll be beginning to help more women than I ever have before, and I’ve very excited about that.
But back to this blog!!
It’s 2025, and more than ever it’s feeling chaotic and overstimulating. Just finding a moment of peace can be tough.
So, I decided to co-author a mindful colouring book with Kim McKenzie (you can find out more about Kim in the colouring book!) that offers a simple yet powerful way to step away from the noise, reconnect with yourself, and build resilience. By blending creativity with mindfulness, this eBook provides you with many pathways to cultivate calm, enhance focus, and strengthen your capacity for joy.

Need to Relax? Forget About Putting Your Ducks in a Row First!
In today’s fast-paced world of screens and notifications, finding sacred time to relax can feel like almost one more thing to do on the endless to-do list.
So, if you’re like most women, you blow off the things you do to truly relax (like a fabulous yoga class that ends in the Best EVER Shivasana). You don’t chill in the steam room (even when it’s in your building), you don’t listen to your favourite music with headphones on and your computer off, or you don’t play with your dog — much (doggo might not let you put her to the bottom of the to-do pile!)
Maybe you’ve thought to yourself, once I get the to-do list done and my ducks in a row, I can really relax. Welcome to the real world: where modern-day ducks don’t like straight lines and keep zipping around (too much coffee for those ducks!).
Do This and Noisy Ducks Will Quiet Their Quacks, Letting Peaceful Waters Ripple Through Your Mind
I think the solution is not to round up all the ducks, nor is it to turn on Netflix when the fine art of rounding up ducks gets to be too much.
What if you knew that the advantages of a special kind of relaxing far outweighed the sacrifices and potential problems of blowing off to-dos instead to-desires?
What if you also knew that the noisy ducks (in your head or in your life) could get much quieter if you could do this?
And what if by working on your “capacity” to soothe your nervous system without having to sit on a meditation cushion, your to-do list would seem like fun, instead of the heavy burden it usually feels like? Imagine someday tackling tasks with a sense of calmness or even playfulness and joy.
Enter A New Way of Being With Yourself that Your Future Self will Love
For those of you who don’t know my work, I emphasize a particular kind of mindfulness meditation that is deeply tied to the nurturing brain. This isn’t about sitting still for hours or forcing your mind to go blank. Instead, it’s about creating a gentle, secure presence within yourself — a state where your body, mind, and emotions are aligned in calm connection.
The Art of Mindful Colouring
Colouring, surprisingly, aligns beautifully with this type of mindfulness. The act of choosing colours and focusing on the rhythm of your hand moving across the page invites you into a meditative state. It’s not just a distraction; it’s a deliberate act of slowing down, noticing, and creating.
Women’s Tradition of Creative Mindfulness
Throughout history, women have gathered in creative spaces — around the weaving loom, at quilting bees, or in art classes. These moments of shared creativity weren’t just about making something useful or beautiful. They were about connecting, being present, and finding solace in the act of creation. Colouring, in its own way, can recreate this communal mindfulness, even if you’re doing it solo. It’s a chance to connect with yourself and, perhaps, a wider community of people engaging in similar practices.
The Science of Colour and Creativity
Choosing and working with colours engages the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain associated with decision-making and emotional regulation. The simple act of colouring also activates the brain’s reward center, releasing dopamine and promoting a sense of accomplishment and pleasure. Over time, these activities strengthen the neural pathways associated with calm and focus, making it easier to access these states in everyday life.
The Mindful Motion of Colouring
There’s something inherently soothing about the physical act of moving your hand across the page, and the feel of the paper under your hand. It’s an activity that requires engagement but allows for openness and relaxation. Unlike the frenetic scrolling and overstimulation of modern media, colouring invites you into a state of flow — a gentle rhythm that calms the mind and body. The more you practice this state, the more your brain adapts, building structures of calm, connection, and contentment.
Choosing Calm in Uncertain Times
As we move further into 2025, with all its unusual and uncertain challenges, making intentional choices that support a calm and engaged state becomes ever more important. By engaging in mindful practices like colouring, you’re not just relaxing in the moment; you’re building a “brain-body” skill that fosters resilience and well-being across all areas of your life.
